In order to bring together the research activities at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, and to support the scientists with the development of their research projects, the Collegium Philosophicum was founded in November 2010 as the humanities and sociology centre of the faculty.

In addition, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities offers the interdisciplinary research focus “Cultural Spaces”, implemented at the Graduate School Human Development in Landscapes.

The research project 'Residenzstädte im Alten Reich (1300 bis 1800)' at the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities, sponsored by the Federal Republic of Germany and the State of Schleswig-Holstein as part of the Academies' Programme, has a position in the Institute of History at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

The Union of the German Academies of Sciences and Humanities, represented by the Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Literatur, Mainz (Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz), sponsors one of the four research assistant positions at the Institute of Music at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, as part of the Johannes Brahms Gesamtausgabe (Collected works of Johannes Brahms research unit)
